Our club member Faysal Sawadogo qualified for the Paris Olympic Games a few minutes ago at the African Qualification Tournament in Dakar (Senegal). After winning the title at the African Cup three months ago, he had entered the race for Olympic tickets as the favorite, but his path to Olympic qualification was much more difficult than it seemed to outsiders. Until last, they were thrown in the bat between the legs, but the hard work in his club, especially of course with his coach Özer Güleç, who has been preparing him intensively in the last 2 years, but he was not allowed to coach him at his most important tournament so far, has paid off paid off. He didn’t let the futile hopes, setbacks and disappointments derail him from his path, yet he had enough mental strength not to lose sight of his goal and barely made it through in the decisive semi-finals under these unnecessarily difficult conditions. We are all very happy with and for him and are now focusing on preparing his participation in the Paris Olympic Games – hopefully under better conditions!
