HE DESERVED THE OLYMPICS
At the competitions held in Dakar, Senegal, (February 10, 2024) Burkina Faso’s pride Taekwondo athlete Faysal Sawadogo has been qualified to participate in the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. Sawadogo, who achieved a great success at the 2024 African Qualifications held in Dakar, Senegal, defeated his Moroccan opponent in a critical semi-final clash and secured his Olympic journey with this victory. Faysal, an athlete from the Özer Taekwondo school in Nuremberg, will have the opportunity to represent his country and club in one of the most prestigious sporting events at the Olympic Games to be organized in Paris.
THE UNIVERSITY GRADUATE
Born September 22, 1996, Faysal graduated from the University of Grenoble Alps in Economics and Management and has a successful academic career in addition to his sporting achievements. Sawadogo was named Sportsman of the Year by the Burkina Sports Journalists Association in 2017, winning bronze medal at the 2019 African Games and bronze medals at the 2020 European Club Championships
SUCCESSFUL UNDER THE LEADERSHIP OF ÖZER GULÇ
Taekwondo Men won the right to compete in 80kg category at the 2020 Summer Olympics. Finally, Sawadogo, who achieved a significant success by winning a gold medal in Abidjan, Ivory Coast at the 2023 African Taekwondo Championships, was locked to the target for an Olympic visa with the Özer Taekwondo team led by Özer Güleç. Sawadogo’s victory in the qualifiers was greeted with pride and enthusiasm by sports lovers.
THE CAREER OF ÖZER GÜLEÇ
Güleç started his coaching career in 1992 and was appointed as coach of Bayern in 2004 and Germany in 2009 and reached the 7th DAN level. Güleç, who trained many World and European champions during this process, represented the Olympics with three athletes between 2008-2016 and made this success a tradition. He emphasized that his goal is to win a medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
